Laser R9 150cc starting issues

I have a 2006 TGB Laser R9 with approx 3000 miles on it. I haven't driven it for about three years and I recently decided to start riding again. I got a new battery for it, hooked it up, and tried to get it to start. It started cranking just fine but when I went to shut it off with the key, the starter still was trying to start! Now as soon as the battery terminals are connected, key out and kill switch on, the scooter tries to start. Anyone run into this issue? Any possible solutions? I've check the fuse by the positive battery terminal, and have been checking all the wires in the front panel of the scooter, everything seems fine and makes no difference if unplugged or not. I'm thinking there must be an issue closer to the starter. I'd appreciate any help on this.

most likely a short at the switch or the button is stuck.

Just an update on my starting issue. I was thinking it could possibly be the starter relay solenoid? From my understanding, these sometimes can get stuck "on" which will continually engage the starter. I ordered one online and I'll replace in a few days. I'll keep you all posted if interested.

Final update status: Replacing the Starter relay solenoid did the trick! It was an easy replacement (under the seat, removed four bolts). Plus a cheap fix under $6.

So if your starter is engaged continuously, even when the keys are removed, you may want to look into replacing the starter relay solenoid. Worked for me!
