My Blade 1000 EST is losing power and struggles to get to 35mph and the exhaust tail is glowing red after just a few hundred yards. Any suggestions to what might be wrong please?

perhaps you have a bad valve? or running really lean?

Yes, I had considered the mixture being too lean and maybe fuel valve staying open and leaking into the exhaust. Was doubtful of this though as the exhaust tail is above the engine and fuel tank height so in either case I would expect the glowing to happen towards the head but that seems fine. Please correct my logic if you think I am wrong.

exhaust valve maybe out of adjustment and not closing all the way
so when the fuel explodes it leaks out of the cylinder as a 1000F/550c flash
overheating the pipe.. also you would have loss of power.
pull the cover and measure the lash....sorry i wasn't clear on the "a bad valve"

Hi Harry

Ended up taking it back to the company I bought it and they said the reason was a dead spark plug that had coked up and the plug cap had burnt. Said that this was causing the fuel from one cylinder to be pushed into the exhaust system without firing and so caused the heat in the tail pipe. Changed plugs and plug caps and told me to collect it. Seemed ok, but had another fire on the tray below the engine and seems like some fluid is coming from somewhere, all within an hour of collecting it from them, so I've sent it back and now don't really want the bike back. I am wondering if the plug issue was the truth about the original problem and they blowing smoke up my arse. Thanks for your earlier suggestions, it was probably closer to reality than what they suggested.
Regards

good for you, but since its the plug and not really motor  or tranny issues  you
might have a hard time convincing the dealership to take it back.

plug issues are very hard to diagnose due to the very different symptoms they cause.
usually its a good idea to replace plugs just on general principals and most always
give them a look for the things they tell about the motor
