Just got an r50x and had the restrictor washer removed from the variator. Before this was done the max speed was 37mph (speedo indicated) at over 9000rpm. After the restriction removal the speed increased a good 6 mph @ only about 7500-8100rpm. I read a post talking about when modifying the motor to increase top speed (say to 45mph) that this could damage the motor due to higher rpms. My question is if the bike is modified to run at a higher top speed but at the stock maximum rpm, would this increase the wear on the motor over stock?
I'm getting a pipe, jets and sliders next week and anticipate being able to hit 9-9500 rpms and around 45-50mph. I do not want to damage the motor so please help before I blow the damn thing up.
