TGB Delivery 50 (2009) - running problem

Hi all,

I have a 2009 TGB Delivery Scooter (technically 49cc) with about 1500 miles on it. It sat for a while, but now I (with help  ) have drained the gas, flushed the carburetor, put in a new battery. Here's what is happening. It runs, drives around, etc. completely fine. BUT it will only stay running if one of the handbrakes is slightly depressed. Otherwise it just stops running. Do any of you know what the problem could be and have any ideas how to fix it?

for these scooters you have to hold in the brake lever to start it up.
there is a switch(brake switch) that grounds the cdi so  the scooter will start
so i'd  check the brake switches for starters... there might be a short or perhaps
its a bad or stuck switch .
  try squeezing the lever  about 20 times  then start 'er up see if that does anything
then if that fails to work replace the switch .

Yes, I know about the starting requirement, but I was saying that when it's actually driven around, it will not stay running without slightly depressing the brake. Thank you, I will try that idea and let you know how it turns out! Appreciate your time posting back.


P.S. Do you have any idea where you would get a replacement switch? I'm in Portland OR.

there is a good chance i can get you one...i have a few generic ones someplace too.
 to test you might  disconnect the left switch(2 wires) and just hold in the
 right lever and see if it starts and stays running.
as said its (brake switch)part of the electrical lockout system that works with the cdi
and kill switch also grounds out the cdi to stop the motor.

Hi there, it's been a bit, I know, but I'm actually not the one working on this scooter. Someone is doing it for me out of kindness. So here's what the current situation is: the scooter will now run without holding the brake in (I mean when you're driving it around, not simply starting it), but from the wiring this guy did, the brake light will no longer come on. So he was guessing it was a switch or relay problem? That maybe one or both needed to be replaced? What do you think, Harry?

the electrical connection that is needed to be made when holding the
brake is also the brake light ......

disconnect the brake switch and put a meter on the leads and
press the brake lever and see if there is continuity.
 check both levers/switches and you should see brake light
if not check the bulb

Hi Harry,

The guy working on the scooter said all the switches have continuity and the scooter will still only start if you depress one of the two brakes, it will die when you release the brake. could the relay be faulty or some other issue? I'm just passing this on, sorry if I have already asked you this.
