Hello all TGB R50X riders  ;D:

I am keen to hear from R50X owners who have had their strator replaced:

Could you please indicate whether your bike has had the strator/magneto replaced and if your bike was de-restricted before the strator problem arose.

If you are a scooter shop owner and has fixed R50Xs, then i would be keen to know the numbers of R50X that you have replaced strators on.

Cheers

If you have a older R50X  (2006) there might be a problem.
was the lead wrapped with blue  near the connector?
if it was black there was a known problem  that required a special
TGB\Cobra  service bulletin.
the blue was the replacement stator at the time.
they have since changed the stator supplier  so that problem went away.

lets have some details from you like , year ,stock coil  y/n , extra lights , CDI
stock or w/ snipped wire .  good connections at the rectifier/regulator?

Year: 2006
Stock coil: Yes
CDI : Brown wire cut
Good connections with rectifier and regulator: Yep!

I haven't taken the Strator out as i need a tool to hold the flywheel and then a puller, so i cannot answer your question about the colour of the wrapping of the lead. Thinking about taking it out to check resistance through the strator. Local TGB importer says there is nothing wrong with the strator in these R50X and that he has not heard of any problems with them. So i am interested in your comment about the TGB service bulletin. Another scooter shop has had 4 R50Xs come in with the same strator problems.

your scooter is  the right year for the problem to exist

the  connector is what plugs into the harness and
the blue part will be near that  . you shouldn't need to
take out the stator  to see that part of it,
 just remove the seat bucket.
