My 101R loses power if you try to accelarate quickly and then conks out.  It starts and idles ok (quite slowly though) although it does give out quite a lot of blue smoke as you pull away.  It was serviced in April and had a new spark plug and I recently put a new battery in.  Can't get it to a garage as it won't travel far enough.
I would really appreciate it if anybody knows any solutions to the problem.

it can be a host of things...
water in the fuel, dirty air cleaner, dirty carb,
clogged jets

what year is your scooter? how many miles?

start by draining the carb and maybe add some heet or iso heet( gas line/ fuel dryer).
or go the best way and remove the carb and clean it.

I had some time today to gain access to the carburettor and i thought I would also have a look at the spark plug. Although its only a few months old it was oily black at the end. Does this support the view that I should clean the carburettor or is there a mixture control that could have a problem. I am not particularly experienced in engine maintenance so keeping my fingers crossed for a simple solution. Thank you for your help so far.

the spark plug should be light chocolate brown.
black and very oily  means your too rich  ... however too
rich is way better than too lean , which could blow the motor!
a lean condition would result in the plug looking real light tan or white
if you have a new plug.

a rich condition means more fuel than air .. if you haven't changed
the carb settings , then it could be your air filter is really dirty or the
carb air passages are clogged.

when messing with the carb
FIRST THING!
carefully screw in the air screw and count the turns of the screw
until you hit bottom and write it down so you can reset it right.
do the same with the idle screw.

for some good how to's  go to utube and search  for
how to clean a <scooter-moped- 2 stroke> carb.

I cleaned the carb and it has improved a bit. Now going to try cleaning the jets properly.

try using a wire from a wire brush and soak them in some  carb cleaner
