ON wednesday last week the engine note sounded odd, a loss of power getting to 40kms then fine, for me it seemed like the baffles in the muffler had gone, as a rattling noise was heard but when i got to 40kms the engine note and power was fine.
Thursday night it stopped for the first time ever at idle, got it going with 3 or 4 kick starts.
THen on Friday the motor died in full flight and now the kick start jammed. Smelt oil at the time but have since had a look and whilst there is oil around the head she has done 10,000 kms so doesnt seem to be to unusual.
Any leads team?
Cheers
John

sounds like a needle bearing blew or ring broke - usually  hear a rattling
sound pre seize  . then it will stop dead mid stroke.
you might remove the head and see if there
are parts of it in the top of the piston or head.

also  you might see some scrapes on the piston wall  if you remove the
exhaust and  use a mirror and flashlight  to look in the port

you will have to remove any parts that are loose in the case
which might be jamming the crank counterweight lobes from turning.
or when you re build it can seize right up in the first 5 miles.

let me know if you need parts

You are correct, a metallic rattling sound was heard, approx 2 days prior. Ouch!

It is currently getting towed to shop, his impression was it could be the crackshaft, but if you are true then it looks to be  a rebore and piston & ring set at best?

Will keep you informed on the outcomes.

Appreciate your time

usually its the top needle bearing on the connecting rod / wrist pin
that goes and you can salvage the crank/bottom end
its the costliest cause the motor comes out and everything is
removed from the crank~  flywheel, stator, variator ,starting gears
then the motor is split in half and finally the cranks pulled...

just go for a cylinder kit they're not really expensive and a re bore
is a weird deal  with labor and parts  you might as well just by the kit.
anyway  fyi;  pistons come  +0.25  to  +1.00  in .25mm
