Anyone ever put a GY6 150cc in a Key West?

Well I have a newish 150cc short case motor and my 2007 Key West just quit running. I will probably just fix whatever the problem ends up being but the thought of putting this 150 in it has crossed my mind. Key West are AC aren't they? How hard would swapping it in be? Would the wiring harness need to be spliced? It looks like the 150 would fit easily and the motor mount looks like it might work on the 150 too. Anyone ever tried this or heard of anyone doing it?

nope . not a 150 gy6 in a morini frame . you might have to make a
new swing assy  or  mounts

but i did put a 90cc jog motor in a 50cc frame once.
the issue there was a different 90cc jog motor rear wheel
spline than 50cc wheel and had to use a slightly wider rim .
then after adding the tire there was just a tiny amount of clearance 1/4" or so
before rubbing the frame .

one thing, as for the power to weight ratio  between the  2 motors.
2t vs 4t ;
for a 4t to equal a 100cc 2t's power   the 4t has to be 170cc
eg; lighter 2t , heaver 4t  in a frame designed for 2t motor
now has lots more weight..

if you can bore the case  i'd be thinking of putting in a 90cc cylinder
on that puppy.   everything will swap from a 90cc jog .
you will have to get a better/bigger intake .

the difference between the 90cc jog motor and the 90cc cylinder kit in
a 50cc case
 is the 90cc motor has a longer stroke (slower take off).
the 50cc motor has a shorter stroke (more torque fast/wheelie type take off.

anyway good luck take some pictures and post them..

Thanks oilyhans. I know it would be easier to just build the morini motor up which is what I will likely do. Are you saying the 90 jog top end will fit the morini motor? I was just going to do the 70 kit and get a next r pipe and upjet the carb.
But I still have this 150 gy6 motor and have been having a tough time getting a frame to put it in cheap. I have 2 50 4 stroke frames I have been thinking about putting it in but that requires welding in a new motor mount. I also bought a non running TOMOS TRB but that has the same morini motor my Key West has so I guess it would be the same issues as my Key West as far as the 150 swap are concerned. Here are some pics of the 150 just stuck under a Jonway Gator I have. It looks like welding in a motor mount wouldn't be too hard and the wiring shouldn't be an issue either.

read this--->   http://tgbforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=496.0

you would need to make some measurements but i think the probabilities are high
 that it would work
however the bolt on 70cc kit is easier and you can get 50mph+ with a tuned pipe and
springs and sliding weights and bigger intake and........

fyi;;there are 2 morini motors,  ad50 (suziki)  and the TGB morini.
they are different ,an example would be the variator fan
on the TGB it is all a cast part of the fixed variator sheave held on by a left hand nut.
 on the AD50 the fan is a stamped bit of sheet metal with punched& folded
fins and it slides on like a big washer and all the vairator parts are kept on with a 'e' clip and spring.
also both cranks are different, tgb is threaded for the LH nut
and the AD50 has a small grove for the 'e' clip

Wow so they were partners! Well why does the minarelli motor seem to be so much more upgradeable? I've read the minarelli's produce more power than the morini's. Not that I really mind that much. I don't want a racing scooter and if I can get my Key West running 50 mph I will be a happy man!
Also I just bought a non running TOMOS TSR{Hyosung Sense} for $75. It has a morini motor too. Is it the same motor as the Key West?
I think I will just fix my Key West and put in a 70cc kit and new pipe on it but I may try putting the 150 gy6 into the Tomos. Its a top mount too. But it sure ain't as pretty as the Key West!
