Advice on a kit

Hey, I've got a Tecnigas Next R pipe on my R50X along with 8g Sliders.

I have 3 CDI units that fit on my bike, but make it rev through to the redline screaming at 12000.

It used to hit 43mph at the rev limit until last week when I had the bearings changed and now its hitting the 8000rpm rev limit at 35mph.

How could this be fixed?

I am looking at getting a 70cc kit which will be ok for everyday use that wont blow me up? Any recommendations? Does a 70cc kit make it rev higher or increase the mph so im normally doing 30mph at 7000rpm. would I then be doing 35mph at 7000rpm?

welcome Derrick..

well over 10,000 rpm will lunch your crank sooner or later.
and yes the 70 kit will increase the rpm. it will give about 3-4mph more top end.
let me know if you need stock or racing parts

So if I got a 70cc kit, what else would I need and how would it perform if its hitting the rev limit at 35mph?

have you removed the 'wedding ring'  from the variator?
you should be able to make a solid 42mph+  or so  with a kit..

I just recently have the bearings replaced by my mechanic, I'm not sure but I had an incling that he may have put the washer back on to re-restrict it. I've just bought an air impact wrench which will be here in a day or so and I will take a look myself, if it was to only stay at 35mph at 8000 revs (and cant rev any higher) what would the kit do?

you can remove the side cover and use a  mechanics mirror
to look in between the belt and see if there is one.
if you don't have to take off the variator so much the better.

the very best way to get higher speeds without over rev-ing
is to change the gear ratio.  ;)

i think there are  2 sets of gears for the R50x. check out
the parts links at the bottom of the forum homepage.

Weird thing just happened, took off the casing and got down to the variator, took it all apart (didn't need an impact wrench, just used pliers to hold the pulley and used a normal hand wrench to get the nut off). Tipped the slider weights out and put them back in (couldnt find a variator washer).... put it all back together and then tested it on the road, now it is back to normal and goes to 35mph before hitting the rev limiter instead of 43mph.

Not sure what could have caused this but I assume that the sliders were not in properly.

Now it will go to 8000RPM and get to 43mph. Still I think this could be improved, I have 2 unrestricted CDI's that work on it, but one sends it flying to 11k RPM and the other sends it past the 12k mark. If I kept the one with the rev limit at 8k to not damage the crank, would a kit do anything?

Would a racing variator do anything if it can only go to 8k?

yes a kit  will give you more low end power & faster pickup.

a racing variator does not change the motors rpm
they have a different ramp configuration and may be bigger in
dia which will increase speed.

putting the sliders in wrong  can cause shifting and top speed problems .

The variator on you site, that will not increase my rpm and will increase top speed/acceleration?
