202 Classic; newbie from UK

Hi there, I've just got a 2009 202 Classic, with 11½k miles on. It looks like it's had a hard life from previous owners. Electric start won't work, relay just clicks, finally got it started on kickstart, only to have the engine race at high revs with no throttle opened. It wouldn't start for a while, but ran rough at idle speed when restarted. I'm using 50:1 semi-syn premix, cos the oil pump has been disconnected.
Tested the wiring to the autochoke and we're getting power there although it doesnt seem to help starting from cold. Any ideas?

usually the clicking means bad battery or connections
 the sunset is very touchy about the battery level.

make sure that there are no air leaks and that you have the air box
and a filter inside of it

idle maybe set too high.

Thanks, Harry. I've checked for air leaks tonight, and found that the jubilee clip that tightens the carb rubber to the manifold is broken, doesn't tighten up.
I'll get a new one tomorrow and swap it over.

 you should check the plug color.
 that will tell you if the scooter was
running too lean  because of too much air.
