TGB Sunset 50 non-running prognosis

I am considering a purchase of a TGB Sunset 50 that currently does not run.  After speaking with the current owner, apparently someone may have drained the oil tank (as a prank) and the scooter was ran without oil.  Evidently, the rider did not see the oil light in the instrument cluster come on, if it came on, and kept riding the scoot.  Considering this, what sort of damage to the engine might I be looking at repairing, worse case scenario?  What sort of investigation could be done to possibly determine the extent of the damage.  THANKS!

well that is bad news .
running without oil can/will blow the motor ,seize the piston
screw up the big bottom bearing   or crank bearings....
does it turn over ? whats the compression?
remember you will need to re-prime the oil pump for it to work...

as for repairs  simple might be replace the top end ~ cylinder & piston
 ( $150 for the kit & 5-6 hrs~ fairly easy job)
or you might have to split the case and do the crank ($350 and 10hrs
plus the needed experience & tools)
depending on whats toast.

that being said some guys defeat the pumps and pre mix the oil into
the gas cause they don't trust the pump  ..
