Delivery 150 Starting issue

I purchased the 2005 model in May of 2013 and have had issues with it not starting daily. I can ride it for 4 days and the 5th it might not start. It might start and get me to the store but not crank when I come out.

The scooter shop has replaced the battery, fuse, checked the spark plug and done a carb service.  Yesterday it presented a new symptom. It was still trying to turn over even with the ignition in the locked position and no key in it. Even when the switch was in the kill position it attempted to start itself while the roadside service guy was jumping the battery.

Its as if the scooter thinks it is still on when the fork is locked and the key is out with the engine actually off. Ideas?

The shop has also checked ground wires and will check the starter next.

Just curious, did you ever resolve the starting issue with your scooter. I have a Laser T9 with the same symptoms. As soon as I attach both terminals to the battery, the starter kicks over, even with the keys out and the kill switch on. Please let me know if you found a solution!

Thanks

Not yet but am hopeful. The shop said the symptoms were possibly related to a starter issue and are looking at it now. I will update when they are finished.

The starter relay was replaced and it is working now except with really cold temps won't start. Different symptom though. Will turn over, will even start but won't stay cranked.

Sounds like you may have a bad autochoke that is sticking and making it hard to start. Starting while the key is off is likely the starter relay.

We replaced the starter relay and it still the battery completely discharges even though I've ridden it the night before. It last about 10 days and that is it. My local scooter shop has given up on it and told me it is now a brick.

I don't know what to do with it.

your local shop sounds like they only want do do whats easy.

if the battery keeps going dead  its most likely one of 2 things
you  have a short or the charging system is not working right

He keeps saying he has tested the charging system and does not know what to do now. There are no other shops in town and he knows I don't have anywhere else to take it.

The shop refused to consider the rectifier and instead is ordering a new Sader which is on back order. He said based on his experience a rectifier  has never failed and he spoke with TGB and they suggested the Sader and he wasn't happy I suggested the rectifier. Not sure about the spelling of Sader. He was not happy at my suggestion either.

UGH

wow  i was under the impression that they were giving up,
now their mad at you for trying to find the answer  for your "bricked scooter" ?
more likely they are mad you double checked and found a possible answer
which challenged their authority.

he said he tested the charging system? and gave up saying that it was ok?
so when the battery is low does the head light get brighter when you
rev the motor? if so your stator is making electricity.
and yes the regulator doesn't go bad as often as the stator but again they said they checked the stator..??

yes the stator(magneto) is higher on the troubleshooting list
 but again they "checked it"
so they are really saying  "we didn't checked it and told you we did"
or they somehow thought they did

if replacing the stator doesn't fix it you shouldn't pay a dime for the labor or part

Thanks for all your help. How much do you expect the Stator part to cost and is it unusual that it is back ordered this long? Mine is a 2005 TGB Delivery 150. T
