2007 key west wont start

my dad bought a 2007 key back in 07.  rode it for a whopping 58 miles then just let it sit in his parking lot outside.

its been sitting for at least 5 years.  i am trying to get it started.  i check compression on the engine.  was about 100-110psi.   i replaced the battery and the spark plug as well. i get a spark on the plug.

gas tank was disgusting but i think i got it mostly cleaned out.  first problem i have encountered is that with it cranks i dont see fuel getting to the carb.  i think the petcock valve may be messed up but how can i tell?  is there a way to unclog those things?  i dont want to assume the carb is bad until i least get gas to it and it wont start.

any help would be greatly appreciated.  i dont know much about these scooters.

thanks.

so  was there rust in the tank? that's really bad
because  you will be cleaning the carb all the time
due to tiny pieces  of it  clogging the jets.

there  is a bent pipe @90  comes out the
middle  of the shut off   you need to suck (vacuum)  on it ,
i use a syringe , that will open up the flow  of fuel.
i would remove the fuel line to the carb so that bad fuel  doesn't
go into the carb .
and most likely you will  have to clean the carb if it has sat for that long.

Got it started tonight. By not using the petcock.  Just ran fuel line into filter into carb.

But I think the flow was too much because it kept stalling.  Does that sound possible.

I ordered a new petcock. It's really gunked up.   Not sure if this is will be all I need to do.

well it might be a good idea to clean the tank really good
then replace the shutoff ,filter and the hoses , then clean the carb.
if there is any rust/muck in the tank the carb/jets will get plugged up.

i cleaned out the tank as good as i could.  i don't know if its perfect but the gas seems to be flowing good.  i replaced all the hoses and cleaned the carb.  got it running now.  i was able to take it for a test ride but now it seems that it works well during the ride.  then when i go from riding to idle it stalls.  do you think it could still be a carb problem?

also another question i had was about gear oil.  can i use anything else but 85w-90 and do you know how much i need to put in after i drain it?

thanks for all the help.

yes,  thinner <80w> is better where its a cooler climate
but 80/90w is what  i've  used for 10 years.
